A 12-cylinder engine with a displacement increased to 4954cc and with a power of about 330 horsepower at 6000 rpm was mounted on some frames of the 375MM that had been used in the 1953 World Sport Championship. It was the maximum evolution of a unit whose birth dates back to 1950, when, in the 4500cc version, it was mounted on the Formula 1. The new 375 Plus proved unsuitable for races such as the Giro di Sicilia or the Mille Miglia, but in circuits where the power of the engine counted a lot, he had no rivals: Gonzalez won at Silverstone and Le Mans, paired with Trintignant, where Ferrari returned to the top after five years; success also at the Carrera Panamericana with Umberto Maglioli. At the end of the 1954 season, Ferrari clinched the World Sports Championship.
