For the 1955 endurance season, Ferrari was faced with competition from Mercedes, in front of which neither the 750 Monza nor the 118 and 121 LM managed to resist. Over the course of the season, efforts to add some new cars to the already existing lineup were carried on, with further developed cars such as the 857S, equipped with a 3421cc 4-cylinder in-line engine with a power of 280 horsepower at 5800 rpm. The car had the chassis of the 750 Monza and made its debut at the 1955 Tourist Trophy.
