Based on a BMW 2000 Ti manufactured in March 1966, body builder Pietro Frua prepared the Monteverdi 2000 GTI coupe which was presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1968. Seven months later, the car reappeared on the Frua stand at the Paris Motor Show, with the BMW logos instead of the Monteverdi ones and other modifications including the spoked wheels. The car was sold to Peter Monteverdi, who converted it into the Monteverdi 2000 GTI. The car changed hands in 1998 and subsequently changed hands again in 2019.
