With the MkVI, in production since 1946, Bentley carried out a series of chassis developments that had already been undertaken with the 1940 MkV. The MkVI had the same engine as the MkV, the 4257cc 6-cylinder that was used until 1951; from that year until 1952 the engine was stretched to 4566cc, and was used in that configuration also on the R-Type and R-Type Continental.
