The name Chaparral was born in 1961 from an idea of Jim Hall, driver and mechanic. The chaparral is a fast Texas palmipede and the cars of Jim Hall, who was Texan, always carried this name. The 2F was built for the 1967 sports world championship and as the 2D it was equipped with a 5360cc Chevrolet 8 cylinder. With Bonnier and Phil Hill the car won the Nurburgring 1000km and the second win of the season came at Brands Hatch thanks to Phil Hill and Mike Spence. The engine displacement increased to 7000cc with a notable increase in power. The 2F was characterized by a large rear wing, fixed at 1.37 meters from the ground.
