ONYX - TYRRELL - F1 024 YAMAHA N 18 SEASON 1996 U.KATAYAMA

For the 1996 F1 season, Ken Tyrrell continued his exclusive collaboration with Yamaha for the supply of engines. The new Yamaha unit (type OX11A) was a 72-degree V10, which had the advantage of being the lightest and least bulky engine of all F1. Unfortunately, the limited budget made available by Yamaha compromised the results. The car (024) had no particular defects but the shortcomings of the engine were really a handicap. Mika Salo and Ukyo Katayama (the latter preferred to other more experienced pilots due to the dowry he brought) failed to obtain significant results. Tyrrell was eighth in the final standings with only 5 points, the result of two fifth places and a sixth place by Salo.
