For 1986 Toyota further developed their Group C concept, presenting the 86C, equipped with a new multi-valve engine, the 3S-G which was credited with an output of about 680 horsepower at 8500 rpm (in some events the power went up to about 750 horses). The March gearbox replaced the Hewland. However, the 86C proved to be far from the best European cars and not yet at the level of Nissan.
