Based on the Ford Cortina, Lotus developed a sporty version, conceived for rallies and track races. The Lotus Cortina was introduced in 1965 and remained in production for a couple of years. Equipped with the 4 cylinders unit mounted on the various versions of the Elan, the Cortina boasted a power of about 105 horsepower. The Lotus Cortina became a symbol of the sporting touring cars of the sixties, and enthusiasts still remember the unmistakable works white and green livery, or the red and gold livery of the Alan Mann team.
