That achieved by Jean-Pierre Jabouille on the Dijon-Prenois home circuit in 1979 was a historic victory, because it was the Renault's first Formula 1 win and the first for a supercharged engine. A little less than two years after the debut in the top category, the French company celebrated its first success in a Grand Prix also marked by the historic duel for the second place between the other Renault of René Arnoux and Gilles Villeneuve (Ferrari), who had the upper hand in an exciting final sprint. The fact remains that that day Renault set a milestone in the history of racing. A single-seater the latter, born from a great development work. It was equipped with the 520 hp V6 1.5 turbo engine in its EF2 evolution, equipped with two German KKK turbines instead of the only American Garrett turbine that had been adopted in the previous unit. This ensured a quicker response in acceleration. The RS10/11, equipped with side skirts to maximize the ground effect, was raced in 11 GP's, starting five times from pole and finishing on three other occasions in the top three positions.
