In 1979 Peugeot took over the Chrysler-Simca assets, including the very old established Talbot brand. The whole Chrysler-Simca production would be rebadged as Talbot. In 1982 Peugeot decided to replace the rather old Talbot Sunbeam, that also had had quite a brilliant rallying career, with a more modern car. However they didn’t want to start from scratch but used the Peugeot 104 base, lengthening the wheelbase and revamping the bodywork. The Samba, was a pleasant little car that was also raced in a spectacular one make series and also in rallies. The Peugeot 205 didn’t wipe the Samba out – it eventually would replace it in 1987.
