Confirmed Alesi, Herbert left the Swiss team after three years and Pedro Diniz arrived in his place. The season was not easy, with many retirements and technical problems. Sauber scored just five points in the world championship, finishing in eighth place. Diniz and Alesi did not go beyond a few sixth places (Alesi in Imola and Japan, Diniz in Canada, UK and Austria).
