In 1984 a breath of fresh air entered the Volvo range, with the 740 sedans continuing the tradition of the 240/260 but with more modern lines. From July 1985 the 740 was also marketed in SW configuration. Sedan and break were available in various versions: GL, GLE, GLT and Turbo. The 740, which mostly inherited the 4-cylinder engines from the 240 series, had a long career, until 1992, during which it benefited from numerous technical improvements and important evolutions.
