For the 1989 F1 season, Gérard Ducarouge joined Broadley and Murphy in the design of the new Lola LC89, on which the V12 Lamborghini engine designed by Mauro Forghieri was fitted. Despite the car being well designed, the team struggled throughout the season with poor engine reliability. Phlippe Alliot, Yannick Dalmas, Eric Bernard and Michele Alboreto drove the LC89.
