Following the presentation of the innovative 1900 sedan, Alfa Romeo planned an increase in the range, as usual with coupé and convertible versions. The task of designing the bodies was delegated to the various coachbuilders. Compared to the sedan, the wheelbase was slightly shortened, while the mechanics reflected the characteristics of the future 1900 TI, with double-barrel carburetor, increased compression ratio and 100 horsepower. The official configurations were the Touring coupe and the Pinin Farina convertible. In 1954, with the launch of the 1900 Super, the Sprint was also updated with the 1900 Super Sprint version. The changes concerned the engine, now more powerful, and gearbox. Touring's coupe received a leaner and cleaner body; this was joined by the version of Zagato, aerodynamically very advanced and sporty in character. Another restyling took place in 1956, in combination with an improvement in the mechanics and with bodywork that had references to the lines of the Giulietta Sprint.
