During 2009 Peugeot began the design of the evolution of the 908 HDi FAP of LMP1 which had debuted in 2007. The new car, simply called 908, made its debut at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2011, participating in the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup and the 24 Le Mans hours of the same year. The 908 featured the mechanical changes imposed by the regulations and from an aerodynamic point of view it adopted the rear fin also required by the technical regulations. The 2011 908 engine was a 3700cc V8 turbodiesel and boost pressure limited to 3 bar with 33.5mm restrictors. Defeated once again at Le Mans by Audi, Peugeot gave up continuing the LMP program in 2012, announcing its retirement on the eve of the 2012 12 Hours of Sebring.
