With its massive and austere silhouette, the Passat III certainly could not aspire to pure sports performance. After a first version with sporting ambitions, the G60 Synchro with compressor, presented in 1990, Volkswagen relaunched in 1992 with the VR6. If the Synchro had disappointed, also due to the high weight and insufficient power, the V6 ensured a good dose of horsepower, 174, thanks to the 2.8-liter V6. The VR6 remained a solid, safe and spacious car. Production stopped in 1993.
