Audi's victory in the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2000 was nothing surprising. Prepared with the usual care from the Ingolstadt house, the 24 Hours of 2000 saw three Audi R8 occupy the first three places, with Biela / Kristensen / Pirro winners ahead of Aiello / McNish / Ortelli and Alboreto / Abt / Capello. Developed using all the data collected in the 1999 edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the R8 was the direct heir of the R8R-1999. Aerodynamically revised, its V8 engine developed 610 horsepower, enough to distance Brabham's Panoz by 3 ”in test. In the lead from the first laps of the race, Kristensen / Biela / Pirro completed a race without problems, forced only to change two ... windshield.
