The 1950s represented an important milestone for the French car industry: the mass production of series cars coincided with the disappearance of most of the great artisan workshops that had made the glory of national motoring from 1930 to 1940. One of the few who managed to survive by exploiting favorable situations was Henri Chapron, who was able to identify in the Citroen DS an ideal basis for his own elaborations. The convertible version of the DS19 and DS21, although standard, remained an example of a happy union between traditional craftsmanship and the need for a wider production. The DS Cabriolet Chapron was produced between 1958 and 1969.
