Shorter and less bulky than the 011, the Tyrrell 012 appeared in the last races of 1983. Still equipped with the naturally aspirated Cosworth, the 012 still had a more modern chassis. The car was used throughout 1984, where it achieved excellent results but in the end the team lost all the points won due to a technical irregularity. The 012 was also used in 1985 while waiting for the new 015 and a couple of frames were also converted into F.3000. Michele Alboreto, Stefan Bellof, Martin Brundle, Stefan Johansson and Danny Sullivan drove the 012.
