The new generation of the Opel Kapitan was presented in 1964. It was practically a twin of the Admiral, but equipped with the 2586cc inline 6-cylinder engine and 100 horsepower. The Kapitan was a massive car, rivaling the Mercedes 300 SEL in size, but costing less than half. The American derivation (General Motors) of the Kapitan was betrayed by the shapes of the bodywork and certain details. From August 1965 a 2784cc engine was introduced (125 horsepower, 140 in the HL version). Production of the Kapitan went on until 1968.
