Winklhofer & Jaenicke, bicycle manufacturers in Chemniz (Germany) had the brand Wanderer, which in German means walker. The Wanderer name was also retained for the range of motorcycles, launched in 1902 and, starting in 1907, for small cars. At the end of the decade Wanderer supplemented its offer with 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder cars with a very classic character, but with some technical refinements such as overhead valves. Absorbed by Auto Union in 1932 together with DKW, Audi and Horch, the Wanderer brand went on to make up the group's mid-range. After 1945 the brand was shelved. The W240 series, produced during the 30s, featured a saloon and 2- and 4-doors cabriolets.
