Following in the footsteps of the 480, the 440 and 460 sedans confirmed the renewal cycle of the entire Volvo range in the late 1980s. Introduced in October 1988, the 440 hatchback was presented with three 1721cc Renault-derived engines: carburetors, 90 horsepower for the GLE, 109 horsepower and injection for the GLT, supercharging and 120 horsepower for the Turbo. The 440 remained in production until 1997.
