After the first three GPs of the 1992 season, in which Benetton used a modified version of the B191 of the previous year, the B192 made its debut in Spain, which was the car that definitively launched the Briatore team among the top of Formula 1. With the B192 Schumacher won his first F1 GP, in Spa, obtaining several other important results. At the end of the year Schumacher was third in the overall standings, while his team-mate Brundle was sixth, with a second place in Monza as his best result. Benetton finished third in the team standings, preceded only by Williams and McLaren.
