Peugeot returned to endurance racing with an ambitious project started in 2006 with the development of the new 908 turbodiesel engine. The stated goal was to return to winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans after the 905 years of Group C and the team managed by Jean Todt. But things were perhaps more complicated than expected also because of a fierce and well organized competitor like Audi. After a year of apprenticeship in 2007 and a first disappointment in 2008, the Peugeot team showed up at Le Mans 2009 in the role of favorite, this time with an obvious technical advantage over the Audi R15 TDI. The victory went to the Peugeot of Brabham / Gené / Wurz, a single crew entirely made up of non-French drivers. That of 2009 remains the only Le Mans victory of the Peugeot 908.
