In the 1967 Formula 1 championship, Brabham successfully defended the drivers and constructors' titles won in 1966, with Denny Hulme succeeding Jack Brabham. Revised and improved during the winter of 1966-1967, the Repco 740 engine now gave more than 320 horsepower. In the first races of 1967 the Brabham team used the old BT19 and BT20, until the new BT24, designed by Ron Tauranac, based on the contemporary Brabham F.2s, was ready. Initially a Hewland DG200 F.2 gearbox was mounted on the BT24, later replaced by the DG300 F.1. Jack Brabham, the team’s other driver, finished second in the Drivers' Championship.
